X Factor

There is something curious and imaginative that happens in my brain when I search for the X factor in people or things. I find the use of the term X factor fun and whimsical in itself! To me, it feels like a door is opened that allows all the mysteries of life in and no explanation is necessary. How fun and liberating is that? 🙂

Physical Spaces– I would assume you don’t often think of your possessions as having an X factor. And to be fair, many of your items don’t. They are useful and necessary items. But, some of your things do have a powerful X factor! Maybe it’s a special piece of art that you bought on vacation or that your child made. Maybe your home’s front door is a much different color than the rest of the home and the contrast pulls you in invitingly.

I encourage you to try an exercise. Walk from room to room in your house asking the question, “What is the X factor in this room?” If you find a room that doesn’t have one, what colors or things could you include or take away that would provide the room with an X factor? Is there a design or way to organize the things in the room to make it more interesting?

Another thing to remember is that when you figure out the X factor in a room, you want to make sure it’s visible to enjoy. This could be keeping it subtle or exaggerating how much attention you want to focus on the X factor of the room.

And again, one of the main points of this exercise is to have fun appreciating the interesting and special items you have in your life already.

Relationships– When you consider your close relationships, there are always special things about them. At times, it may be hard to describe why you find yourself drawn to them, but you undoubtably are drawn in. Searching for the X factor can not only be fun but a great reminder to appreciate who they are and why you are so grateful to have them in your life.

This is a fun date night question. Ask your significant other, “What is my X factor?” You may be surprised by the answers and learn more about why your partner is attracted to you. Is it your humor or intelligence? Or your kind demeanor or courageous spirit? Maybe it’s because of the inside jokes you have or the sweet pet names you share!
